UPDATE 4/13/17 @ 8:30 a.m. - The fire has been contained to 30 acres of heavy brush and palm trees. Resources will remain on scene at least until 12:00 p.m. Imperial Irrigation District has mitigated the power issue. Power has been restored to the Saint Andrews Mobile Home Park.
UPDATE 4/13/17 @ 6:00 a.m. - The fire is now 15 acres. Imperial Irrigation District (IID) was requested to the scene for compromised power poles near the fire. IID arrived on scene and de-energized power lines due to the fire threat. This caused Saint Anthony Mobile Home Park; located east of the fire; to be without power, and effecting several hundred residents of the mobile home park. Several transients who inhabited the old palm grove, were also effected by the fire. The American Red Cross and Riverside County's Emergency Management Department are en route to the incident to assist all parties affected. Law enforcement has established a hard road closure on Avenue 66 X Highway 111 near the AM/PM market.

CAL FIRE/Riverside County Firefighters responded to reports of palm trees on fire in the area of Avenue 66 X Highway 111 in Mecca. The first arriving engine company reported a vegetation fire in an old palm grove, approximately three to four acres in size, burning at a moderate rate of spread, with no immediate structure threat. Law Enforcement has been requested to shut down Ave 66 at Highway 111.
The fire is now approximately six to ten acres in size, burning in heavy brush and trees. Firefighters are facing moderate wind from the west, blowing at approximately ten miles per hour, with gust up to fifteen miles per hour. They are holding the fire west of Lincoln Avenue, south of Avenue 66, and north of Avenue 67. Resources will remain committed for several hours.
