UPDATE 5/11/17 @ 5:53 a.m. - The second patient has been transported by ground ambulance to an area hospital with major injuries.
UPDATE 5/11/17 @ 5:42 a.m. - The second patient has been brought up the mountain and will be transported by ground ambulance. Ortega Highway will remain closed for approximately one additional hour. For updates on road conditions, please contact California Highway Patrol.
UPDATE 5/11/17 @ 5:15 a.m. - The first patient has been transported to an area hospital by OCFA Helicopter 1, with a paramedic from on of CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire Department's fire engines. The second victim has been extricated and is being brought up to the roadway by firefighters.
UPDATE 5/11/17 @ 4:50 a.m. - Mercy Air helicopter declined due to weather. Orange County Fire Authority's (OCFA) Helicopter 1 has been started to the incident.
UPDATE 5/11/17 @ 4:40 a.m. - One victim has been extricated from the vehicle. Firefighters are bringing the patient up to the roadway.
CAL FIRE/Riverside County Firefighters responded to reports of a traffic collision involving a vehicle over the side, on Ortega Highway X Tenaja Truck Trail in the unincorporated County area of Lake Elsinore. Firefighters are on scene of a single vehicle approximately 120 feet over the side with two patients trapped. Ortega Highway is closed in both directions for approximately thirty minutes while firefighters extricate both victims. Mercy Air Ambulance has been requested to the incident.
