Current Situation

UPDATE 5/9/18 @ 10:28 p.m. - The fire consumed over 30 large pallets of cardboard, cargo containers, and one vehicle. Firefighters were able to stop the fire from destroying a building and containment took nearly five hours. Extensive overhaul will continue with firefighters and the property owners. ** UPDATE 5/9/18 @ 8:52 p.m. - The fire has been contained. ** UPDATE 5/9/18 @ 5:53 p.m. - The down power lines have been mitigated. Resources will remain on scene for an extended commitment time of approximately three to four hours. ** CAL FIRE/Riverside County Firefighters responded to multiple reports of a fire at Oates Lane X Avenue 50 in Coachella. The first arriving engine company reported multiple pallets, cardboard boxes, and a power pole on fire with confirmed power lines down. Imperial Irrigation District is on scene to de-energize the power lines. Firefighters have stopped the forward progress of the fire, but will remain on scene for approximately two hours. Updates will be posted as information becomes available.
