[UPDATE] - 1:42 pm - Firefighters continue to mop up the incident. A second vehicle was also destroyed in the fire. As of this morning the Evacuation center has been closed.
[UPDATE] - 5:53 am - A total of 5 residences were destroyed on the fire as well as 1 boat and 1 vehicle. A Field PIO will be on scene within the hour.
[UPDATE] - 2:53 am - The fire has been contained at 3 acres. Firefighters will remain on scene for several hours for extensive mop up of the incident.
[UPDATE] - 2:30 am - Riverside County Emergency Managment Department and Red Cross have established a Evacuation Center at Desert Mirage High School, 86-150 Ave 66, Thermal, CA 92274
[UPDATE] - 2:15 am Red Cross en route to assist with approximately 250 evacuees.
[UPDATE] - 1:40 am - Fire holding at approximately 2 acres and 0% contained in a variety of brush and trees. Firefighters are continuing to defend structures on both sides of Avenue 70.
[UPDATE] - 1:30 am - 2 Additional structures with severe damage. Fire is on both sides of Avenue 70.
CAL FIRE/Riverside County Firefighters responded to reports of a vegetation fire near the intersection of Avenue 70 and Pierce Street. The first arriving engine reported approximately 1 acre of heavy fuels involved with threat to residential structures. 2 Mobile Homes/Trailers have been destroyed. There are no reports of injuries at this time. Updates will be posted as information becomes available.
