6/27/2020 FINAL UPDATE - The fire was 100% contained at 7 a.m. at 12.4 acres.
 
6/25/2020 Update - The fire remains 12.4 acres and is 85% contained.
 
Update 5:00 p.m. - Fire is now 12.4 acres, no change in containment.
Update 4:00 P.M. - Fire is 8 acres 26% contained. Power outage affecting apprx 20 IID customers. Sun Bus assisting with one bus for firefighter rehab. Drift smoke will be visible for next 24 hrs.
[Update] 2:20 P.M. -***DRIFT SMOKE ADVISORY*** Drift smoke will be visible throughout the Coachella and west desert valleys. Resources will remain on scene as they work to fully contain the fire.
[UPDATE] @ 1:15 P.M. - Approximately five acres of mulch burning with spotting into the vegetation. Imperial Irrigation District (IID) has been requested to shut off power in the area of the incident. Drift smoke is visible throughout the Coachella Valley.
 
CAL FIRE/Riverside County Firefighters, with assistance from Cathedral City FD and Palm Springs FD, responded to reports of a vegetation fire in the area of Van Buren Street cross of Avenue 58 in Thermal. Firefighters are on-scene of a 1/4 acre vegetation and mulch fire burning in a palm grove. CHP is assisting with a hard road closure at Van Buren Street and Avenue 58. Additional ground resources have been requested. Updates will be posted as information becomes available.
