UPDATE 5/20/2021 - The fire was contained at 7:53 PM to 17 acres. There will be one engine and one water tender on scene today to patrol the fire. CAL FIRE/Riverside County Firefighters responded to multiple reports of a vegetation fire burning near the intersection of Highway 111 and Parkside Drive, in Mecca. The first arriving fire engine reported approximately 1-2 acres burning in heavy fuels with a slow rate of spread. By 4 p.m., the fire had transitioned to light flashy fuels and began increasing in size. Currently the fire is 20 and 0% contained. More updates will be posted as they become available.
