The Riverside County Office of Emergency Services (OES) is responsible for coordinating the planning and preparation for the response to and recovery from extraordinary emergencies and disasters. These efforts have typically been centered around the County's considerable threat from earthquakes, severe weather and wildfire. There have been twelve Presidential Declarations of Disaster in Riverside County from 1990 through the winter of 2004. Ten of the twelve were either the direct result of weather conditions or were greatly exasperated by weather. The events of September 11th 2001 have placed an increased emphasis on the readiness for terrorist related incidents, now a primary focus of the Office of Emergency Services.
