EVACUATION WARNING: An evacuation warning has been issued for Harrison Street X Avenue 70 in Thermal and Pierce Street X Avenue 70 in Thermal.

The Care & Reception Center at the Mecca Public Library has closed.

Current Situation

CAL FIRE/Riverside County Firefighters responded to reports of a wildland fire in the area of Highway 86 X Avenue 72 in Oasis. Firefighters arrived on scene of approximately two - three acres of medium fuels burning at a moderate rate of spread. The fire is now 40 acres and 10% contained, burning in heavy fuels at a moderate rate of spread. Multiple ground resources are on scene and fire crews are making good progress.

Southbound lanes of Highway 86 have been shut down near the fire for equipment safety. There is a soft road closure on Pierce Street between Avenue 70 to Avenue 72. Please avoid the area.

UPDATE 3/26/22 AT 8:13 PM - The forward rate of spread has been stopped. The fire is 41.26 acres and remains at 10% contained. The evacuation order at Pierce Street X Avenue 70 in Thermal has been downgraded to an evacuation warning.

UPDATE 3/26/22 AT 9:45 PM - The fire remains at 41.26 acres and 10% contained. Unless significant incident activity occurs, the next update will be tomorrow morning after 8:00 AM.

UPDATE 3/27/22 AT 8:50 AM - The fire has been mapped at 42.5 acres and is 70% contained.

UPDATE 3/27/22 AT 7:15 PM- The fire remains 42.5 acres and 70% contained.

UPDATE 3/38/22 AT 9:30 AM - The fire remains 42.5 acres and is now 90% contained. There was no significant fire activity overnight.
