Pre-Fire Division

The Pre-Fire Division consists of a Unit Forester II and a Unit Pre-Fire Engineer. The duties and responsibilities include, planning and managing, hazardous fuel treatments, vegetation management programs, resource monitoring, liaisons and CAL FIRE representation on FireSafe Councils, Community Wildfire Protection Plans and within Riverside Unit of the Mountain Area Safety Taskforce (MAST). The Pre-Fire division captures and submits data thru ArcGIS to CAL Mapper and other data bases to annually complete the Unit Fire Plan.

The Pre-Fire division is responsible for all Riverside County Fire Vegetation Management Programs (VMP) and associated fuel breaks and fuel reduction projects. 

Pre-fire also assists various county entities and cooperating land management agencies in designing, implementing, and monitoring fuel reduction projects.  These include mechanical removal of heavy fuels, mastication, pile burning, low-intensity burns of light grasses, and removal of ladder fuels. 

Pre-Fire assists on or performs archeological, environmental, and sensitive species checks as are needed to properly protect our natural resources on all projects. 

The Pre-Fire Captain is responsible for many mapping projects within the county.  These projects include fire perimeter mapping, maps for prescribed burn projects and fuel breaks, and maps for the county fire plan.
